  5.         First off please read all the documents included in this packet.

  9.         Third you must follow the following instructions closely or
  10.         you may have problems.

  13.         Administrative

  15.         As you know the Internet(E-Mail)/Usenet is being offered to you
  16.         via QWK... ALL QWK packets and REPS must be downloaded and uploaded
  17.         via The ROSEMAIL DOOR only ! ( Cam -Mail will be used as soon as Cam
  18.         releases his new upgrade door, he assures me it's forthcoming ).

  20.         Note: Fidonet Format can be done on a case by case basis.

  22.         ALL systems must carry Conference 361.. ( E-Mail) this is the most
  23.         important conference on the system. This is where you must direct all
  24.         your users to send private mail. ( more on that later ). You must
  25.         setup a conference on your system called Email or Private Email etc.
  26.         Direct your users to this conference for posting and retriving private
  27.         mail. * NOTE *.. All postings will be public and they must be told this
  28.         before allowing them to proceed with posting. I reccommend you have
  29.         them agrree not to hold you liable for the openess of this endeavor.
  30.         Also add INTERNET-LO conference  # 567

  32.         Usenet newsgroups :..  There is as of April 1, 1993 4500 newsgroups
  33.         and 2000 regional newsgroups. ( Newsgroups are conference in the UNIX
  34.         world ). You may carry/select up to 100 newsgroups for $15.00 a month
  35.         and $25.00 for 101 and more. I have a partial list included in the
  36.         zip file. I can mail you a copy if you forward me a mailing address.
  37.         The listings will be a Xerox copy.

  39.         Newsgroup selection Via Rosemail
  40.  
  41.         As I stated above, you must select the newsgroups that you want to
  42.         echo via RoseMail. Again, YOU MUST select 361 Email conference. I am
  43.         sure that as a sysop you know how to use a QWK door. ( if you haven't
  44.         used one, please call me and I can explain how to use one ).. After
  45.         you've selected the conference. You may download a test QWK. The reason
  46.         for the test QWK is to see how long the download will take and to see
  47.         if the Door is working <G>.

  49.         As soon as you've selected the newsgroups via Rosemail please forward
  50.         me a check/money order or cash to me. I'll give you net status and
  51.         you'll be able to import the message into your system.

  55.         Email Addressing...
  56.  
  57.         Conference 361 is solely used for sending/receiving Email to
  58.         anyone on the Internet... All newsgroups replies  can go back into
  59.         their respective newsgroups....  I caution you however... This is not
  60.         like RIME or Fidonet where anyone can make a reply just to test to see
  61.         if the newsgroup is echoing.. These folks take this Net real seroius
  62.         and you'll find that they don't like to answers question that have no
  63.         business being discussed in the newsgroups. I hate to sound like a
  64.         jerk but I can't have a user on your board post a message that a
  65.         moderator feels that won't enhanced the usefullness of the newsgroup.
  66.         Major companies and Research companies etc following the net real close
  67.         for information etc... The ALT and the MISC groups are loosely
  68.         moderated but the others are closely monitor. If you find that a
  69.         user is posting a message that doesn't belong in that group delete it
  70.         and notifiy that user.. if you don't I will... I can't stress to you
  71.         the importance for you to closely following the message trail.
  72.         If these procedures are not followed then I am liable for the message
  73.         that was posted and my feed can be denied and removed.

  75.         *NOTE* No local discussion is permitted or tolerated in the Newsgroups
  76.         they should post in the proper echo, ie: Wpalocal, Pghlocal.

  78.         When posting in the newsgroups.... the message must be sent to ALL
  79.         readers.. if a user on your system insist on replying to a indivuals
  80.         they MUST have that users Email address and they must enter that
  81.         message into Conference 361.( Email) . NO exceptions !!!  I can not
  82.         stress the importance of this and the Newsgroups are read by all and
  83.         Most users on the Net rarely read the Newsgroups daily. There is a
  84.         a way to response to a users in the Newsgroup but that would require
  85.         a user to understand the headers  that accompany the actually thread.
  86.         In addition to  the Email conference you must carry Internet - Local.

  92.         Addressing Scheme :

  94.         This is how you and your users will receive mail. You must tell
  95.         your users what he/she email address is... the addressing scheme
  96.         goes this way : firstname.lastname@quadtech.com and that's it...

  98.         If there is a user on your system name Joe User then his Email
  99.         address is joe.user@quadtech.com  (no caps).

  102.         Posting in the Email and Newsgroup:

  106.         Example... Joe User want to write to JohnTech@pitt.edu...

  108.         Have your user enter the message in your Private Email conference
  109.         that you set up.

  111.         TO: johntech@pitt.edu ( or what the email address is )
  112.         From: The system will put the user name here automatically..( my
  113.         software before the message is exported will add the proper syntax )

  115.         Then enter the body of the message then have then save it... that's it
  116.         this is a very simple procedure and you instruct your user that it's
  117.         just a name... If they have more question and need info on how to
  118.         get a person Email address have them call me..  I can find Email
  119.         address via my VAX account at Pitt.

  130.         Arlington VA... Thus giving users/sysops the highest reliablity
  131.         when it comes to Email. We maintain 2 Feedsites Netcom On-line
  132.         Services in San Jose, Calif and UUNET from Canada... Total monthly
  133.         cost for the total service is $200.00 just for mail. Phone charges
  134.         and connect charges vary ( averages around $250-$300 monthly ).

  137.         call. I'll post a message to your BBS when mail runs takes place and when
  138.         the best time to pick up mail. Mail Runs 20 hours a day..

  140.         I have a separate machine that sends and receives mail every hour
  141.         except during total system events.  This line is totally dedicated for
  142.         mail. A node packs the mail for sending and the other node prepares it
  143.         for importation... the systems batch program was written by me as a
  144.         class project in Grad School ( incidently I receive a " A" )...

  146.         I know as well as you that this is a new service that I am providing and
  147.         as such it is not without problems.. I can't tell you how many nights I
  148.         stayed up testing this system, no system is bug free but so far things
  149.         look real stable.. but from time to time I don't get mail.. that's the
  150.         fact of being a sysop.. the phone was busy, the Netowrk was down..
  151.         anything can happen and believe me they do.. that is why Companies have
  152.         Systems Administrators...
